The findings: both bakuchiol and retinol significantly reduced wrinkle surface area and hyperpigmentation, with no statistically significant difference between the two.   1. You don't need to "start slow" the way you would with retinol. That said, introducing any new active gradually is still a reasonable, cautious approach if your skin tends to be reactive.
  2. Pair it with sun protection anyway. Bakuchiol doesn't carry retinol's photosensitivity risk, but daily SPF is foundational skincare regardless.
